Lady Ho Tung Goes to Guilin and Yangshuo

Last weekend Team Canada went to Guilin and Yangshuo, two gorgeous places in Guangxi province--China. After spending a day shopping in Shenzhen (China's first Special Economic Zone--essentially a mammoth shopping mall interspersed with factories) we flew to Guilin. Yangshuo (backpacker town one hour from Guilin) is the place to hang out, though. It's like being in a live Chinese scroll-- rivers, mountains, little bamboo rafts, picturesque villages. This guy was our bamboo raft driver (skipper?).

Rafting: Navine does NOT know what he's doing.

Me at our hostel in Guilin.

View of Yangshuo from top of Moon Hill.

More prettiness. Seriously, it was soooo pretty. Everywhere you look: pretty, pretty, pretty.

We hired a guide and did some cycling.

Cycling with our guide Mickie. Zoom in and check it out--I look about 15 years old here. That's my bmx-er buddy Gavril there beside me.

At one point Anne and I went to a park where I paid my entry fee with a 100Yuan note...a note which I suspected was counterfeit but wasn't 100% sure. It looks completely normal but people had been rejecting it when I tried to pay for stuff. Much to my surprise, the ticket lady accepted it without hesitation. Great. So we took off up the hill to check out the views of the rivers and the pretty hills (see above).

Everything was fine until I noticed the little pink minions marching up the hill. I thought they looked cute, so took their photo (patronizing tourist) but turns out they had realized the 100Y was FAKE! So, we got busted. The funny thing is that in this photo, if you zoom in you can see that the front-most trouper is carrying the bill in her hand and does not look too pleased.
Sarah and Anne enjoy their final semester of law school.

Yes that is a crown of flowers on my head. My parents didn't name me Sarah for nothing (The Hebrew word "Sarah" means woman of high rank, and I like to translate it as "princess").

hello sarah,

this is my first blog. thank you for introducing me to the world of blog. it looks very nice there, I like all the pretty green mountains. I was once there too, did you see my name carved in Moon Hill? Your room reminds me of your old one on Palmerston, but more quiet. I hope you are having fun. Please say hi to Nav and Gav for me. Miss you all. And thanks again for being my first.
