Lady Ho Tung visits Cheung Chau
Cheung Chau is a small island near Hong Kong. A great weekend getaway for weary students who study too much (!) I visited a couple of weekends ago, and loved it...
Rented bikes and cycled around the island. Considering there are no cars, it was pleasant, as long as you don't mind the muffler-less lawnmower/tractors roaring up and down the pedestrian paths...and the constant smell of fish: but considering that is not unlike the environment I was raised in--no problem for Lady Ho.
Fisher girl, wondering whether the law was a poor career choice considering she could live/work as a fisher here...
...and considering the quality of the local men...
Unfortunately, just when I was going to say hello this crazy woman (pictured below) ran him over with her bike. Obviously not a local.
Cheung Chau: a popular spot for expats to come and enjoy some laid-back weekend time on the beach, as is evidenced by this crowded beach.
Thought these were pretty and how "Asian."
You can see the theme I'm going with here...prawns...boat--reminded me a bit of the Silver Totem (the name of my family's fishing packer).
Eating my birthday cake, which barely survived the boat trip. French pastries in Hong Kong...one of the many benefits of hanging out with French people--they know how to sniff out good food.
Above you see my feet catching some air on ferry ride there. Below you see a little fish boat. Cheung Chau is a mecca for fishers and fish-eaters--so being both I fit in with ease. There are fishing boats, fish traps, seafood restaurants, drying fish, live fish, fisher-men, fisher-wives...fish in my belly after we left.
Drying prawns...everywhere...lots of prawns.Rented bikes and cycled around the island. Below is the view from a nice hiking trail. I'm overlooking the bay and considering what type of fish to eat for dinner.
